About

Are you a new homeowner that has big plans for your home, but don’t know where to start, how to stay in budget, and where to get the creativity to bring your vision to life?

Hey there, I’m Tammy here at Rough Around the Edges Design. I’m a wife to my loving husband, and a mother to a spunky 4 year old boy, and a soon to come little girl. I am a DIY & design blogger, woodworker, and an Interior stylist and aspiring designer. I specialize in rustic, modern, & classic farmhouse, mid-century modern, industrial, and weathered provincial/ European design.

So you bought your first home. You saw the potential the moment you walked in for the showing. The paperwork is done and you have the keys, now what? Where the hell do you start with your vision. Whats more how do you stay in budget? I mean come on those closing cost are not cheap. Hiring an Interior Designer is too pricey, especially now that you have a mortgage to deal with. And you don’t want to pay an arm and a leg at Restoration Hardware or Pottery Barn for those beautiful pieces. I totally get you. I was there and I wish I had someone give me pointers and tips on how to design my space with the budget I had. Not only that how to actually fix stuff that goes down in the household. You’re not a renter anymore, you are a homeowner. That means dishing the cash to have someone fix it or DIY.

Maybe money is not the issue and time is. You have no time whether its a full time job or stay at home mom with little minions running around or both. Yup been there, and still there some days.

Perhaps your military and your new home is only temporary but want to find ways to inexpensively make it your own. Just minor renovations, but major design. Or you’re in housing that the base offers. That means no renovations PERIOD! However you want that wow and homey factor the moment you walk in the door.

Or maybe you are stuck. Trying to figure out how to make your design work in a chaotic home where kid safety and easy clean up are priority.

Look I know how you feel.

Seriously No B.S. I really do know how you feel. I remember when my husband and I first bought our home I was so ready to take on the vision I had in my head. A blog, a furniture building business, a screaming rugrat, and a husband that needs more attention than our son it was a struggle to get organized. But believe me when I say it’s possible, and I can help you.

I want to help you with your time, with your design cohesion, with your budget. I want to inspire you and help you create the spaces that you never want to leave.

This blog started when we first bought our home and I was scouring the web for inspiration for home decor and DIYs. After purchasing our house and tackling project after project our home started to take shape and we are freaking excited to have a home we love. We are still a long way from finishing, but along the way I found my passion to build beautiful pieces and design rooms. I want to use this platform as a way to help other DIY & home decor enthusiasts, as well as, aspiring Interior designers.
