ORC Spring 2019 Week 5: The Jewelry & DIY Console

Its almost here. One more week till the big reveal. Man what a ride. It has been crazy this week for the powder room remodel on a budget. I feel like I say that every week, but anyway. This week’s mission was to add the jewelry to the space. Okay no I’m not adding earring and necklaces to the powder room. Its actually the fixtures, mirror, & shelf. Both the light and faucet fixtures were swapped out. I wanted that almost mediterranean feel so I went with these pieces from Wayfair.

This light fixture stuck out to me and my boo the most. I gave him two choices and right away this one piece hit home. We were a bit nervous to install it. We are in no way electricians, and just used the step by step instructions in the package and wallah. It works. Thank God.

Next was the Sink Faucet. I did stay true to the initial design board, but I did change up the nobs to match the inspirational picture more. I really love how it turned out. Now I am not going to lie. This one was a bit of a pain in the ass to change out. You will need a sink basin wrench to get this sucker off. Then have some towels ready. Once it was attached, we thought, “yes all is well in the world”, until we saw something dripping. So lets just say we are still working on this damn thing, but at least it looks good.

Next up is the mirror. Sorry there is no link for this item. I got this mirror a few years ago from Kirlands as a hall way mirror. It fit in the design so well and I save money on that piece. Win. Win. Don’t you think?

Lastly the DIY Fixer Upper CopyCat Bathroom Vanity/Console

So obviously I’m not using this piece as the vanity. I kept the sink as is, but I really loved this piece in the inspirational picture from Fixer Upper the hot sauce house episode. So I decided to use the piece as storage for the toilet paper and magazines. I had no plans for this pieces, so I created just by looking at the picture and using my own dimensions. I know I didn’t want the piece to take up too much space since its a half bath.

Here is a rough sketch of the dimensions that I wanted and how I intend for it to look. I am not using real drawers so those will only be for show, due to time constraints and I don’t need anymore space to hid things away. My kitchen drawers are a mess and I don’t want that for this space. The best part of this is that its not going to cost me too much to build. I have tons of left over wood. The only things I am going to have to buy is the hardware but that won’t be much, I hope.

The Breakdown of the DIY Console

So I am not going into too much detail on how I built this piece, since I plan to do a separate post or make some plans to have in the furniture plans section. I will show you some the progress pictures on the piece.

And then to this. Check out the final results next week.

And there you have it. Week 5 done. I didn’t want to show you too much or any of the whole room. I want to keep some suspense for you guys. Here is the talley thus far for the budget. The hardware kinda put a big dent in yo girls pocket.

Also, I wanted to update the design board as well. Changed the contrast color, changed the flooring to the one I have, and changed out the faucet fixture. Soon floor, soon.
